TOBACCO CONTROL AND CHILD HEALTH

A School of Health Colloquium

Register

In this seminar presentation, I will provide an overview of my research on tobacco control and child health. During my postdoctoral fellowship, I utilized causal inference methods, such as microsimulation and synthetic control, to assess the impact of population-level tobacco control policies on child health globally. While these policies proved effective in protecting child health, they had limited success in reducing smoking inequalities or decreasing child health inequalities. A potential explanation for these persistent inequalities lies in social network mechanisms, suggesting a need for social network-based interventions. However, a comprehensive examination of these mechanisms remains lacking. To bridge this gap, my ongoing project employs longitudinal network analysis to investigate the role of social networks in perpetuating smoking disparities within school classes. Through my research, I aim to provide insights that can inform more effective tobacco control policies.
